Some of the best ideas begin with a conversation. Ours started thousands of miles from home, on a cruise through Norway.

One evening at dinner, dessert arrived: cheesecake. Like I always had, I ate the biscuit base... and left the rest. It wasn't that I disliked cheesecake. I simply felt the best part was over after the first few bites.

The gentleman sitting beside us noticed. He smiled and asked, "Didn't you like it?" I laughed and replied, "Honestly, I only ever eat the base." He smiled and said to me, "If you can fix that, you'd have a real business."

When we returned to the UK, that conversation became an obsession. We spent countless evenings in the kitchen, experimenting with recipe after recipe.

Then one day, everything clicked. Instead of a cheesecake that became predictable after the first bite, we created one with a luxurious molten centre that kept every mouthful as exciting as the first.

That single breakthrough became the foundation of The Cheesecake Atelier.

Today, every cheesecake we make is handcrafted in small batches using premium ingredients and the same philosophy that inspired our very first recipe: reimagine cheesecake from the centre out.
